August 2024 Summary

The summer is over but we are planning an extension to it. Tomorrow we are going to our first road trip around Europe and the destination is Croatia. It’s going to take two weeks and I hope we will have some nice adventures with the family.

I thought that it would be nice to catch up with my monthly summaries of passive income before we leave. So here’s what happened with our portfolio during August.

Dividend Income

Starting with dividend income, I had 2 companies paying dividend in August:

No new payers here and both companies paid the same amount of dividends 3 months ago.

As always, let’s see what part of our expenses in related categories the dividends could cover in case we decided to spend the money:

  • $6.12 from Bristol-Myers Squibb would cover 17.3% of our Health expenses for the last 3 months;
  • $4.84 from Starbucks represents 0.6% of our expenses on Eating Out during the last 3 months.

P2P Lending Income

Next, some income was generated in the form of interest from P2P lending:

Nothing new here, just slightly smaller amount compared to couple previous months.

Other Passive Income

I also received some small amounts of income from other categories:

  • €2.25 from Real Estate Crowdfunding;
  • €6.18 in interest from a partial Bond I own;
  • €2.79 from Money Market Funds;
  • €0.20 from Rental Income in Mintos platform.

Passive Income Summary

To sum it all up, I received €27.11 from passive income during August:

This is how it looks in graphical way so far this year:

And here’s a year-on-year comparison:

I love to see that the passive income more than doubled compared to August 2023.

Investments and Portfolio Contributions

During August I managed to contribute €400 to our investment accounts.

I initiated some smaller purchases with part of these investments.

Firstly, I invested €50 to another Rental Unit Crowdfunding project in Mintos platform. It comes with a 5% interest, paid our monthly:

This should generate ~€2.40 of passive income annually after taxes.

Next, I also invested some small amounts to my existing Lithuanian companies positions:

  • On the 16th of August, I bought 4 shares of Ignitis (IGN1L) at €18.32/share for a total of €73.28. This adds €4.38 to my forward net annual dividend income
  • On the 20th of August, I bought 30 shares of Telia Lietuva (TEL1L) at €1.56/share for a total of €46.80. This adds €2.29 to my forward net annual dividend income.

All together, these small investments add €9.07 to annual passive income. Every little bit counts, and the main thing is to keep investing when you can.

Portfolio Overview

It’s been a while since I posted how my current portfolio looks like. This is the current composition of our holdings:

After not great first half of the year, my portfolio is finally in the green. The main profit on paper is coming from a single company, though – Discover Financial Services (DFS). It has been announced at the beginning of the year that Capital One is going to acquire Discover. Therefore, the price jumped immediately. I am waiting for the deal to close when I should receive some shares of Capital One instead.

Some other companies are also in the green compared to how it was looking at the beginning of the year. However, I have some laggards as well. The main ones are W.P.Carey and Bristol-Myers Squibb. I am keeping them in the portfolio but probably I should do a thorough review what is happening with them and if it’s worth keeping them.

Finally, let’s see how my portfolio sectors/asset categories are looking compared to desired allocation:

More and more sectors/categories are represented in my portfolio.

Difference to desired allocation shows that my next purchase should be to some company from Consumer Staples or Materials sector.

Summary

Another month has passed and our portfolio is slowly growing. I wish the pace was quicker but there are other priorities in life and investments apparently is not the biggest focus at the moment 🙂

August brought €27.11 in passive income and I like to see that it more than doubled compared to last year when we received €11.95.

Looking at the year so far, we received €217.54 from passive income so far. This is 59.6% of my goal to receive €365 throughout 2024. With 66.6% of the year gone, I am falling further behind the goal but the hope is still there to pick up the pace.

Thanks for reading! 🙂
